Frequently asked questions about Saint John Harbour Bridge
The Toll Plaza is 15 ft. 6 in. high in lanes 1 and 11. Lane 1 is 16 ft. wide & lane 11 is 14 ft. 6 in. wide. Our automatic unmanned centre lanes are smaller and designed for personal motor vehicles only. Lanes 2 & 10 are for B-Pass users only, unless otherwise indicated.
The toll varies based on the vehicle you drive. Here is a complete list of toll rates and vehicle types.
If you don’t have exact change, please use one of the Bridge’s far right-hand lanes, where one of our attendants will be happy to assist you.
Our tollbooths treat American and Canadian coins the same, so a US quarter has the same value as a Canadian quarter.
You can use any combination of coins to pay the required fare for your vehicle. Our machine will count it and, if it is the right amount, the light will turn green and the barrier will rise so you can continue on your way.
To ensure everyone’s safety, walking and cycling are not permitted on the Bridge.
The speed limit is 25 KPH (15 MPH) in the BRIDGE PASS lanes. To ensure everyone’s safety, please reduce your speed when travelling though these lanes.
When you approach the tollgate, our computer system will scan your Bridge Pass and deduct the fee from your account based on the vehicle you drive.

If your account has sufficient funds, you’ll see a green light and the tollgate will rise automatically.

If your account has fallen to the minimum balance, you’ll see a yellow and green light, a reminder to make a deposit in your account. Then, the gate will rise.

If there is not enough money in your account to pay the toll, you’ll see a red light and the gate will not rise. One of our Saint John Harbour Bridge attendants will be happy to assist you in paying the toll and refreshing your account.

You can do it online at Service New Brunswick, or visit us at our offices beside the toll plaza.
Your Saint John Harbour Bridge Pass will work in any weather, including temperatures as low as -40C. Vibration, noise, magnetic fields, rain, ice, snow, dirt and mud will not affect it.
In many cases, you can simply remove your Bridge Pass from your current car and place it in the windshield of your new one. In some cases involving commercial vehicles, you may need to get a new Bridge Pass. Please give our offices a call for more information.
If you close your Bridge Pass account, the remaining money in your account will be refunded to you.
We can mail it to you for a small handling fee. Simply indicate this on the request form.
Yes, you can register it for use on the Saint John Harbour Bridge. To register your bridge pass, you must set up an account with us using any of the methods indicated on the Get your B-Pass Page. You will need to provide your existing bridge or toll pass tag number on the registration form. A minimum of $10 is required to set up your account. You will be notified when your bridge pass is ready for use on our bridge.
Yes, however, you must register the pass with them.
Just send us an email with your full name and Saint John Harbour Bridge account number or your b-pass number starting with CAHD or CASJ), and we will respond with your current balance.
